The Lily, 2008-2021

  • St. Colette Catholic Church 330 West 130th Street Brunswick, OH, 44212 United States (map)

Last weekend was somewhat difficult. On Friday, May 28, after trying everything to provide Lily with a  healthy life I had to have her make her final visit to the Hinckley Animal Hospital.  - I remember 13 years ago on Holy Saturday, here at St. Colette, when Shadow, my dog from Holy Name HS,  took her last breath the Lily came to me remarkably the next day.  It was on Easter Sunday! -thus the name Lily! She was 5 months old and had already demonstrated a ‘regal’ attitude, There is no doubt about it that she was in charge—of even me!

Gracie followed about two years later and they were actually sisters. (Annie comes from a       different breeder and family!)

We had done everything possible for Lily and it was becoming more and more obvious that her time was to be limited. (So yes, Annie was in the early plans)

Lily was a great dog and loved being here at the parish. In her earlier years she anticipated weekends and seeing all of you!  Her very last action here was on Thursday evening– as the Perpetual Help Ministry was  praying all 3 dogs ventured into their meeting where they gather around the Tabernacle with Eucharist.  Lily made the trip to the Tabernacle in her wheel cart. I think it might have been providential!

It is very difficult to lose a friend and companion but we take solace in the fact that we gave them a good life (unlike so many abused or abandoned dogs). Lily had a great life and a parish full of friends. I take sincere comfort in that! Thank you for welcoming her to St. Colette!
