Bring a basket filled with items for your Easter Meal to the foot of the altar for a special blessing on Holy Saturday!
What is the basket blessing?
An eastern European custom of bringing the foods of your Easter meal in a decorated basket with vintage family linens and small portions of the Easter meal including colored eggs, paska bread, wine, ham, beets and even candy. It's a wonderful old tradition which you can truly make it your own with your original design and ingredients. The Basket Blessing follows a long line of tradition...begin yours this Holy Saturday!
On this, the official beginning of the Sacred Triduum, join us for the celebration of First Eucharist. The only time Mass is permitted to occur on this day, Mass begins at 7pm and includes the traditional Washing of the Feet. After the sacred procession of the Eucharist throughout the church, it will be placed in adoration behind the altar. Adoration concludes at 9pm and Holy Eucharist no longer resides in the Church until Holy Saturday night. Join us for what is a most beautiful, solemn, and sacred night— a night so monumental in our faith. “O Lord, we adore You!”
Join us for mass at 7:00pm followed by Tenebrae, known as "The Service of Darkness" at 7:30pm.
What is a Tenebrae Service?
Tenebrae is an ancient prayer celebrated during Holy Week which includes a series of psalms and the extinguishing of candles so as to bring the evening into the darkness of Holy Week and the Passion of the Lord. It was originally prayed in monasteries as Matins and Lauds before the Triduum.
We use an abbreviated version on Tuesday of Holy Week as a means of setting the tone for the coming days of the holiest week of the year. Consider joining us for this very moving prayer.
All Men of the parish are welcome!
